Introduction
During my Birthday Month, September, my dear friend Richard L. Morton and I were talking about my gifts or talents as a composer, playwright, historical reenactor, academician, producer and other leading roles. He wanted to know how he could help me to elevate my presence and talents to a greater or national audience level. Although I had an idea of how to formulate this presentation, I needed time to gather my thoughts regarding the matter. Many people have commented on my seemingly endless gift of creative energy. Of course, there was no tangible response I could offer. But I liken it to the life and energy of the sun: endless. In my mind, people who create are symbolically connected to the “SunSource.”
In this profile, I have divided my talent and leadership roles into six principal areas: composing, writing, producing, teaching, directing, and publishing, but under the following categories: Creative Sources that cover composing, writing, producing, and historical reenactments; Church Music Ministry, a summary; The Academician that presents an in-depth profile of my academic accomplishments and pursuits including my scholarly creativity and research and professional service and honors awarded to me in my field; W. Sharokee Music Publishing showing my work in self-publishing, editing, and special services (sample of the catalog is included); and finally, Future Goals and Objectives which articulates what I desire to accomplish in those aforementioned categories.
These Future Goals and Objectives are but my own perception of what needs to be, but I am most anxious to hear what others say in the areas of product, service, marketing, public relations, and fundraising in order to execute such goals. It is not my intention to exploit all of these Goals and Objectives at once, for that would certainly be an impossible task. Some of these ideas could be taken over by other specialists in the field such as a Book Agent who would accept the responsibility of finding an Executive Producer for the Film Project or a Film Company that would be interested in assuming a project like The Fancy Gal. An Artist Agent would then take over the responsibility of bookings and tours for other Creative Sources deemed exploitable at this time or later.
Whatever direction the Artistry of Dr. Sharon J. Willis takes, it will need a team of dedicated professionals with inroads to sustainable funding for this venture to happen in the framework of ten years or so. At 73 years of age, I am nowhere near being faint of heart or “retiring from life.” Yet, I realize that if I am to have a substantial impact in advancing the strategy of such an undertaking, I need a plan that will begin soon. Joyfully, I see my life in all of its fullness dedicated to the continued elevation of African American Culture, History, and Artistry as long as God grants me breath, creative energy, and a sound mind to do so.
